Torrevieja u3a Groups Update
February 2026
Groups Fair: A huge thank you to all the participating group leaders for a great morning, the CMO was absolutely buzzing. On the day 30 of our 41 groups were represented and 192 people attended the fair. A very successful event with most groups attracting new members.
Tenpin Bowling: I am still trying to find a group leader for the Tenpin Bowling group that meets at the Torrevieja Bowling Centre. One of the original members is willing to be the Assistant Group leader but needs someone to help with sending/receiving group emails. If you could be that 'help' please contact Michelle: u3agroupsliaison@gmail.com
For information - a new Tenpin Bowling venue has recently opened in Punta Prima called 'Sticker Park'. If there are any members who would like to run a u3a tenpin bowling group at the new venue please contact Michelle.
Current Affairs & Discussion: This group is now FULL but you can apply to go on the waiting list by contacting the new group leader, David Ames, at the email address shown on the website: torreviejau3a.org
Padel Tennis: Lorraine Simpson will be the new group leader from 1st March 2026. Following the change of venue to Torrevieja, which has more than twice the number of padel courts than the group's previous venue, Lorraine is looking forward to welcoming LOTS of new members. Singing for Fun: It is with regret that one of our dedicated and long serving group leaders, Sheila, has had to resign. If any member(s) would like to take over this group or start a new singing group Sheila will be very happy to share her experience and song sheets/material. Spanish Groups: At the Groups Fair a number of members asked about beginners' Spanish lessons. We currently only have one beginners' group – Maureen Moss in La Mata whose next course is full with quite a long waiting list.
So, if you know of anyone who would like to teach Spanish to beginners please contact Michelle.
Translation Services & Spanish lessons: One of our members, Diala Diaz, is an English-Spanish Translator and Spanish teacher. Translation is €30 ph (Quiron Hospital charges the same even if you only need a translator for 5 minutes!). Spanish lessons, any level, face to face, for minimum 4 students cost €12 pp. Diala's details can be found on the Welfare page of our website: torreviejau3a.org or you can email Michelle.
Possible New Groups/Pop Ups
Gardening Pop-Up
Malcolm, one of our new members, is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic gardener and I have persuaded him to host a pop-up session for members to share their gardening ideas. The venue would be the Los Angeles Bar in Torrevieja. If you would like to join this pop-up please contact Michelle as soon as possible: u3agroupsliaison@gmail.com and I will liaise with Malcolm to set a date and time.
Cookery Group:
This was suggested by a new member at the groups fair. A cookery group run rather like a book group i.e. share recipes/ideas/methods etc, go home and practice and then discuss, and maybe taste, the results at the next meeting. If this idea appeals to any budding chefs out there contact Michelle: u3agroupsliaison@gmail.com Again this could be started as a pop-up to see how it might work.
Tai Chi:
Another suggestion/request from a couple of members recently. If any of you attend, or know of, Tai Chi classes/instructors please contact Michelle and I'll see what might be possible. However, I am sure that members would have to pay for these classes because we would need a qualified instructor to run them.

On Friday 30th January John McGregor presented his talk entitled 'Dad's Story' to 26 appreciative members.
Current Affairs & Discussion
The 10th February welcomed a gathering of more than 30 members to enjoy a post-Christmas menu del dia at Meson el Prada in San Miguel.
Asian Dining
On 11th February members from near and far got together at the Curry Junction restaurant in Rojales for a great evening dining experience.
Ramblers
Los Montesinos and the via Verde was the route for this month’s ramble for the Torrevieja u3a. In excess of 30 members rambled together whilst talking, taking in the countryside views and enjoying a break in Los Montesinos centre..
Camera Club
The u3a Camera Club are back in full stride after the Christmas break with three meet-ups already under their belt and lots more planned for the coming year. New members are always welcome and indeed 6 new faces joined the club at the recent Groups Fair. The club meets on a fortnightly basis and is lucky enough to have a couple of very experienced photographers who are more than willing to pass on their expertise to other members.
